Attention all students if you are looking for a meaningful 2012 summer experience and plan to spend your summer in the UMASS area I have the perfect job that will enhance your summertime plans.
CMASS would like to inform you of two great opportunities to utilize your leadership skills and contribute to the development of the youth in our community. This is an excellent experience in which the end result is a win, win situation for all participants.
The Holyoke Community College and Northfield Mount Hermon School Upward Bound Summer Academy programs are in the process of hiring their summer staff. The (HCC) 6 week summer program operates from July 1, 2012 until August 12, 2012 and the (NMH) Program operates from June 18- August 3, 2012 they are looking for motivated and talented students to fill the positions of Residential/Tutor Mentors.
The Residential/Tutor Mentor position is open to all majors and you may contact Program Coordinator Erin Johnson at ejohnson@hcc.edu or CMASS Student Development Assistant Director Willie Pope at wjp@admin.umass.edu to obtain application materials.
Both programs are federally funded (Department of Education) initiative designed to provide low-income first generation students with the skills and motivation needed to succeed in college. HCC participants live and learn on the Amherst College campus for 3 weeks during the summer and the NMH participants stay on the NMH private school campus located in Northfield Ma. The students undertake a rigorous academic curriculum and are exposed to various cultural and social programs that aid in the development of the necessary skills to obtain college admissions.
