The hit Tony-nominated Broadway musical “The Color Purple” brought its national tour to UMass’ Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on January 3, 2012 and February 1, 2012 with a huge welcome from UMass faculty, students and the surrounding community.

On February 7, 2012 I found myself standing in Calvin Klein clothes discussing my future aspirations in front of TJX Companies representatives at Wilder Hall. Modeling clothes was definitely not something I thought I would be doing on a usually boring Wednesday night but what’s life without a few surprises?
Denim Revolutionaries

On Wednesday, February 15th, UMass had the pleasure of hearing guest speaker and candidate for a position in UMass’s Women's’ Studies Department, Tanisha Ford, present her talk “Denim Revolutionaries: SNCC Women and the Politics of Dress”. Ford recently received her Ph.D. in U.S. & African Diaspora History at Indiana University and is currently a Du Bois-Mandela-Rodney Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan.
March Community Building Day

It’s easy to think that the possibility of any “community building” is out of the question when living on a campus comprised of almost thirty thousand students. However, CMASS “Community Building Day” accomplished this feat on March 9, 2012 with food, refreshments and the extraordinary guest speaker Markeysha Davis.
No Justice, No Peace

Over 200 marchers, comprised of students and local community members rallied and walked in clusters from their respective locations towards the Student Union on April 4th, 2012 for a powerful gathering in the name of Trayvon Martin.
What does it mean to be Asian American?

On April 3, 2010 the Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center sponsored a lecture with Professor C. N. Le titled “What does it mean to be Asian American?” Prof. Le, director of the Asian and Asian American Studies Certificate Program. So, what does it mean to be American? The answer should be citizenship or even pride in the United States but, to the 21st Century society of the States, is the answer only skin deep?
