The Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS) is a student centered learning agency within the division of the Center for Student Development. By serving as a campus resource that facilitates and promotes a learning community that acknowledges, appreciates and values multicultural undersanding and exchange, we strive to advance the personal, academic and professional success of diverse populations of students, staff, faculty and the larger university community. The Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success is comprise of four integrated functional areas: Academic Support, Student Development, Cultural Enrichment and Institutional Diversity. Using a student centered approach which values collaboration, dialogue and action, the programs and services offered engage first generation and ALANA (African, Latino/Latina, Asian and Native American students and colleagues in courageous, inclusive and supportive learning experiences. We aim to create partnerships and collaborative possibilities, provide resources and advocate for students of color and other underrepresented constituencies to ensure academic success and personal growth.

*Promoting cultural, social, academic and creative expressions where students gain a deeper understanding of their own skills, capacities and competences, especially the development of critical thinking skills.

*Creating opportunities to provide interactive learning opportunities that allow students to author his/her blueprint for life beyond college.

*Building relationships with community partners and surrounding schools to increase their awareness of CMASS while attracting more ALANA (African, Latino/Latino, Asian and Native American) multiracial and/or first generation students to attend UMass Amherst.
