New in PE 2.80 (May 2007)

Every molecule in the Atlas of Macromolecules can now be displayed in either FirstGlance in Jmol or Protein Explorer.
New slides were added About Protein Structure & Structural Bioinformatics, including a new list of all PE's slides about protein structure, and three slides concerning sizes and sequence redundancy (in the list under Characteristics of Data in the PDB).
For Intel Macs, a new document was provided outlining how to set up a Windows virtual machine: Setting Up MS Windows and Protein Explorer on Intel Macintosh OSX
Improved troubleshooting for MolSlide development.
Internet Explorer 7 is incompatible and is refused. Support for Netscape 7/8 and Mozilla are discontinued. Firefox remains the preferred browser for Windows. See compatible browsers.

New in PE 2.77 - 2.79 Beta (December 2005 - July 2006)

A downloaded ConSurf 3 PDB file, containing the results of a ConSurf job, when displayed in PE, now automatically shows the ConSurf control panel. Release of ConSurf 3 is expected in mid-2006.
MolSlides can now be exported to Jmol. Examples.

New in PE 2.75 - 2.76 Alpha (June - July, 2005)

MolSlides, annotated slides of rotating 3D molecular views, can now be created and exported from Protein Explorer (PE). MolSlides can be viewed outside PE. They are much easier to prepare than PiPEs, but more limited in what they can do. More & Examples.
The MolSlide Manager makes annotation and organization of your MolSlides easy.
The MolSlide Importer allows previously saved MolSlides to be merged, reorganized, and updated.
MolSlides can be Applied to PE, thereby providing the easiest way to save and restore the state of PE between sessions.
A new History interface allows you to step through past views within the current session, and apply any past view to PE.
Improvements to the Molecular View Recorder and Undo capabilities.
Improvements to PiPEs, including instructions for downloading PiPEs.

New in PE 2.1 Alpha (July, 2003)

Features of the molecule: Between FirstView and QuickViews is a new control panel named Features of the molecule that displays information from the header of the PDB file. For a preview, here are screenshots of Features.
The "Molecule Information Window" is gone, replaced by Features of the molecule (information within the PDB file), plus a new "External Resources Window" that contains the same links to external resources formerly in Mol Info.
PE Site Map: Every control panel now has a link to a new PE Site Map. This is a pop-up window that lists links to all the control panels in PE, so you can jump to any one from wherever you are. It also has links to Sequences, Seq3D, and External Resources.
