(May 2007)
New in PE
2.77 - 2.79 Beta
(December 2005 - July 2006)
- A downloaded ConSurf 3 PDB file, containing the results of
a ConSurf job, when displayed in PE, now automatically shows the
ConSurf control panel. Release of
ConSurf 3 is expected in mid-2006.
- MolSlides can now be exported to Jmol.

New in PE
2.75 - 2.76 Alpha
(June - July, 2005)
- MolSlides,
annotated slides of rotating 3D molecular views,
can now be created and exported from Protein Explorer (PE). MolSlides
can be viewed outside PE. They are much easier to prepare
than PiPEs, but more limited in what they can do.
More & Examples.
- The MolSlide Manager makes annotation and organization
of your MolSlides easy.
- The MolSlide Importer allows previously saved MolSlides to
be merged, reorganized, and updated.
- MolSlides can be Applied to PE, thereby providing the easiest
way to save and restore the state of PE between sessions.
- A new History interface allows you to step through past views
within the current session, and apply any past view to PE.
- Improvements to the Molecular View Recorder and Undo capabilities.
- Improvements to PiPEs, including
instructions for downloading PiPEs.
Details.
New in PE
2.7-2.721 Alpha
(February-March, 2005)
- Undo button.
- Presentations in Protein Explorer (PiPEs).
Examples.
- Molecular View Recorder enables saving Chime command scripts
for use in tutorials or presentations (including PiPEs).

New in PE
2.45 Beta
(January, 2005)
- Compatibility with Netscape 7, Mozilla, Firefox browsers
(Windows only).
- More powerful options in QuickViews Contact-Decorated Surfaces.
- Animations of the bacterial flagellar hook, lac repressor binding to
the DNA operon, and water vapor condensing.
Details.
New in PE
2.4 - 2.411 Beta
(June - September, 2004)
- The Protein Explorer Demo
(interactive Flash movies for beginners).
- Made it much easier to give permission to open new windows to the new
pop-up blocker in Internet Explorer in Windows XP SP2.
- Solutions to problems unique to Mac OS X.
Details.
New in PE
2.2-2.3 Alpha

- Better control of
Protein Explorer's window size.
- Improved presentation of information on the Features
of the Molecule control panel.
- Downloadable for Mac OSX (still runs only in Classic).
- A new section About Protein Structure on the FrontDoor.
- Several serious bugs fixed and some documentation updated.
- Better checking for compatible browsers, Chime versions, and
new checking for popup blockers.
Details.
New in PE
2.1 Alpha
(July, 2003)
- Features of the molecule:
Between FirstView and QuickViews is a new
control panel named
Features of the molecule
that displays information from the
header
of the
PDB file.
For a preview, here are
screenshots of Features.
Except for the Quick-Start molecules on
PE's FrontDoor, Features of the molecule works
only in Netscape 4, not in Internet Explorer.
(Technical explanation.)
- The "Molecule Information Window" is gone, replaced by
Features of the molecule (information within the PDB file), plus
a new "External Resources Window" that contains the same links
to external resources formerly in Mol Info.
- PE Site Map:
Every
control panel now has a link to a new
PE Site Map. This is a pop-up window that lists links to
all the control panels in PE,
so you can jump to any one from wherever you are. It also
has links to Sequences, Seq3D, and External Resources.
