Instructions for disabling Chime in Netscape 2 and 3

Note: it is not necessary to disable Chime if you want to use RasMol as a helper application only for a single session.

Windows

  1. Quit Netscape.
  2. Create a new subdirectory named inactive in \netscape\plugins.
  3. Move the file npchime.dll from \netscape\plugins to \netscape\plugins\inactive.
To reinstate Chime, quit Netscape and reverse the last step above.

Macintosh

  1. Quit Netscape.
  2. Find the Netscape folder.
  3. Create a new folder in the Netscape folder named Plugins (inactive).
  4. Drag Chime from the Plugins folder to the Plugins (inactive) folder.
To reinstate Chime, quit Netscape and reverse the last step above.
