MassNanoTech Partners
MassNanoTech offers an industry affiliates program geared to the needs of technology-driven companies seeking affordable collaboration with UMass Amherst. Membership in the MassNanoTech Partners consortium provides a front row seat on nanotechnology research programs defined for their relevance to industry needs. Members can participate in technical research updates, meet UMass faculty and graduate students, explore commercialization of academic research, and network with companies with similar interests.
The consortium's Technical Research Groups focus on major technical or application thrusts. Members join one or more TRGs and designate a technical representative from their company to coordinate affairs with MassNanoTech and serve on an Industrial Advisory Board. Currently three TRGs are available:
- Nanoscale Materials and Processes
- Nanoscale Electronic Devices
- Bionanotechnology
Consortium-based research activities in these groups are determined by UMass with significant input from member companies. Research progress is presented by lead faculty members at twice-a-year consortium meetings. Occasionally as an outgrowth of TRG-sponsored research, a “Challenge Project” is spun off to engage interested companies in further development of a technology or process that is perceived to have worthwhile commercial potential.
Nanotechnology invention disclosures and prospective research papers and presentations are promptly brought to the attention of MassNanoTech Partners firms to allow them to consider the potential for patenting by the university and licensing back to interested members. Working together on a timely and collaborative basis, consortium members and UMass researchers create win-win opportunities for developing and commercializing nanoscience discoveries.
