Make Your Summer Count!

UMass Amherst's SURE Program is a 10-week lab-and-learning experience for students interested in the field of nanotechnology. This summer, step up your career and get involved in an exciting research project as a SURE participant. With fourteen research projects to choose from, you may not find it easy to decide:

  • Active and Dynamic Polymer Interfaces
  • Assembly of Nanoparticle Protein Assemblies by Surface Plasmon Resonance
  • Biohybrid Materials for Hydrogen Generation and Utilization
  • DNA-mediated Assembly of Nanoparticles
  • Electrochemical Deposition of Oriented Semiconductor Nanorods
  • Materials for Renewable Energy
  • Molecular Modeling of Polymer Translocation
  • Nanoparticle Hierarchy
  • Nanoscale Instabilities
  • Nanostructured Photovoltaics
  • Nanotubes Based on Polymers for Biotechnology
  • Optical Characterization of Nanomaterials
  • Self-Assembly of Polymers and Particles
  • Self-Fabricating Semiconductors

Bright, capable students from all backgrounds and disciplines are welcomed into the program. Nanotechnology is one of the hottest research areas today, and what you learn in the SURE Program can serve you well later on. If you see yourself someday in a professional science or engineering career, you ought to try out SURE this summer.

Participants selected for the program receive a stipend of $3,400, free housing in modern apartment-style dorms, and an allowance to cover travel expenses. We're located in scenic Western Massachusetts in the heart of New England, close enough for easy weekend trips to Boston or New York, and near to seacoasts, mountains, forests and rivers for those with outdoor interests.
