Accessing Luna
There are two ways to access the Luna image collections at UMass Amherst: you can install a Java application on your computer, or you can access the collections through any Web browser.
The
Luna Insight Java Client
By installing the Insight java client on a desktop computer, registered users of Luna Insight at UMass Amherst may access UMass Collections and additional collections to which the University subscribes. The Java client is the full-featured version of the Insight software; you can search multiple collections, create presentations and export images.
Luna Insight through your Web Browser
Registered users of Luna at UMass Amherst can search and browse the UMass Amherst Collections (but not other collections) with a more limited set of tools than provided by the Insight Java Client.
No download or installation of software is required.

The Insight Browser works in Internet Explorer,
Safari, Netscape, and Mozilla browsers, on Windows and Mac. Disable
firewall and pop-up blockers and enable Java on your Web browser.
About Luna Insight at UMass Amherst
Luna Insight is a software package designed for storing and accessing digital images. Luna Insight currently contains over 260,000 digital images from 10 different collections and provides you with the ability to search, view, and use high-quality images in classroom presentations. You may create groups of images and build classroom presentations from those groups. Individual images may be exported for use into other presentation software, such as PowerPoint or Keynote.
The Insight Software and digital images hosted on the UMass Amherst site are currently available for use by UMass Amherst faculty. For more information about how to incorporate your images into the Insight software or to request images, contact the Image Collection Library.
