Application Procedures

Persons interested in applying for the M.S. in Labor Studies degree should write directly to:

    Graduate School Admissions
    Goodell Building
    University of Massachusetts
    Amherst MA 01003

An application can be obtained on-line by visiting the Graduate School's web-site at http://www.umass.edu/gradschool/. The site also allows students to check the status of their application on-line once it has been submitted.

Students applying to our program must meet the normal requirements for admission to the Graduate School (see the Graduate School Bulletin, which can be found on-line at http://www.umass.edu/grad_catalog/). In addition to the completed application, the student must furnish two official transcripts of all previous college work and two letters of recommendation. Foreign students must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). While students are not required to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), it is strongly recommended, particularly for applicants who feel their undergraduate transcripts do not reflect their abilities.

As a multi-disciplinary program, we do not require a specific undergraduate degree for admission. It is recommended, however, that incoming students have a background in the social sciences, including courses in economics, sociology, and psychology.

All application forms, transcripts, references, and required test results are due by February 1 for admission in the Fall and by October 1 for Spring admission, though applications are accepted on a continuing basis. An interview is encouraged but is not required.

We hope that you will consider applying to our program. For more information, contact Eve Weinbaum, Graduate Program Director, 413-577-0458, weinbaum@lrrc.umass.edu
