New course proposals
The following new course proposals have been submitted to the Faculty Senate Office for review and approval and are listed here for faculty review and comment. Comments on any new course proposal should be submitted to Ernest May, secretary of the Faculty Senate, at senate@senate.umass.edu.
GEO-SCI 468/668, “Introduction to GIS,” 4 credits. Instructor: Qian Yu. Introduce the concepts and principles of GIS. Both theoretical and applied realms of GIS are emphasized in this course. Some important spatial analysis topics in GIS are also included. No prerequisites.
GEO-SCI 426/626, “Introduction to Remote Sensing,” 3 credits. Instructor: Qian Yu. Focus on a range of concepts and techniques key to understanding how remote sensing data are acquired, displayed, restored, enhanced, and analyzed. Hands-on experience using the image processing software ITT ENVI. No prerequisites.
