Theater Department stages 'Marta the Divine'
The Theater Department will stage an adaptation of Tirso de Molina’s comedy “Marta the Divine” by associate professor Harley Erdman on Nov. 12-14 and 19-20 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Rand Theater.
A Spanish playwright, Tirso lived at the same time as Shakespeare. Erdman has translated Tirso’s play into English. The heroine, Marta, is a clever young woman who resorts to trickery to be with the man she loves by pleading a religious conversion.
There is also a special student matinee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18.
