New College of Natural Sciences convocation is Sept. 8
The new College of Natural Sciences is hosting its first convocation on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 3-5 p.m. in Bowker Auditorium in Stockbridge Hall.
The event will feature Steve Goodwin, dean of the new college, associate deans and heads of departments. There will also be a welcome for James V. Staros, the new provost, and for new faculty members.
The creation of the new college is part of Chancellor Robert C. Holub’s strategic framework for elevating UMass Amherst to the ranks of the very best public research universities in the country. Holub says creation of the College of Natural Sciences better positions the campus to compete nationally and internationally and enhances UMass Amherst’s ability to attract and retain the best faculty, and facilitates research collaboration across the science disciplines.
Refreshments will be served in the Stockbridge Courtyard following the presentation.
