General Education technology workshop

Dickie SelfeA General Education workshop, “Electronic Written, Aural, and Visual Expressions Across the Curriculum,” is being offered Tuesday, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Campus Center.

The speaker is Richard (Dickie) Selfe, director of the Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing at Ohio State University.

The workshop will address the following questions:

• What 21st-century literacy skills and orientations do students need to develop in order to grow into critical and engaged citizens and workers?

• What do students say about their personal, professional, and academic approaches to literacy systems?

• What do terms like “ecology” and “sustainability” have to do with efforts to innovate teaching?

• In a world of overwhelming technological choice, what value-driven pedagogical motivations should drive faculty decisions?

• Which sustainable activities can faculty use in class that will help students adopt a life-long drive to improve their writing?

Selfe’s most recent publications include “Convince me! Valuing Multimodal Literacies and Composing Public Service Announcements,” published last year in the Theory Into Practice Journal and the forthcoming book “Technological Ecologies and Sustainability” from Computers and Composition Digital Press.

The workshop is hosted by the Center for Teaching and co-sponsored by Provost's Office, the Office of Academic Planning and Assessment and the General Education Task Force.

Lunch is provided. Register online by June 1.
