International travel insurance available to students, faculty and staff

The University has purchased an international travel insurance package which provides coverage and services to students, faculty, staff and volunteers participating in officially sanctioned activities, according to controller Andrew P. Mangels.

In a June 17 memo, Mangels said the insurance covers students participating in University-sponsored and approved international study abroad programs and faculty, staff and volunteers on approved international travel for University business.

For faculty and staff, the insurance provides:

• Foreign commercial general liability
• Foreign business auto liability and physical damage
• Foreign voluntary worker’s compensation
• Foreign travel accident and sickness
• Medical assistance, evacuation, repatriation, accidental death and dismemberment

For students and volunteers, the coverage provides:

• Foreign travel accident and sickness
• Medical assistance, evacuation, repatriation, accidental death and dismemberment

The University’s international travel coverage is intended to provide the first line of service and protection to the University’s travelers, said the memo. Prior to traveling, international travelers should still contact their personal health insurance company to make certain they understand what additional coverage they may have in place, or may want to put in place, while traveling abroad. Any additional coverage purchased would be at the traveler’s own expense.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to review this material and print out the insurance card prior to leaving on authorized foreign travel. For questions, students should be directed to Erika Schluntz at 545-5181 and faculty and staff should be directed to Ruth Yanka at 545-1581.
