Mathematics and Statistics hosts international conference
The Mathematics and Statistics Department is hosting an international conference, “Transformation Groups in Topology and Geometry,” from July 14-17, according to assistant professor Weimin Chen, who is one of the organizers.
The conference is intended to bring together researchers from a wide range of areas of geometry and topology, with the unifying force being the common occurrence of symmetries.
Besides the standard 30-minute conference talks, seven hour-long plenary lectures will be delivered by leading researchers. These talks will give an overview of a given research area and suggest possible new research directions, said Chen, one of the scheduled plenary speakers.
The other plenary speakers are Michel Boileau, Universite Paul Sabatier-Toulouse; Allan Edmonds, Indiana University; Mikio Furuta, University of Tokyo; Shulim Kaliman, University of Miami; Bernhard Leeb, Universit?t M?nchen; and Reinhard Schultz (University of California-Riverside.
The conference is sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
