American Chemical Society leader is Mahoney Seminar speaker
Madeleine Jacobs, executive director and CEO of the American Chemical Society, will present the Chemistry Department's annual William E. Mahoney Seminar on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11:15 a.m. in 1634 Lederle Graduate Research Center.
Jacobs will speak on “The Two Cultures, Zen, and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.”
Before becoming the ACS exceutive director last year, Jacobs was editor-in-chief of Chemical and Engineering News from 1993 to 2004. As a science writer editor, she garnered a number of honors, including the ACS Award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences and the New York Academy of Sciences' Women's History Month Award.
Sponsored by William E. Mahoney '55, the annual lecture features a speaker who has contributed significantly to the public's understanding of science.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments precede the talk at 10:45.
