Juniper Summer Writing Institute hosts public readings by authors and poets

The Juniper Summer Writing Institute will host seven nights of poetry and fiction readings by acclaimed faculty and writers in residence from June 24-30.
 
All readings begin at 7:30 p.m. in 135 Integrated Sciences Building. Readings are open to the public for a suggested donation of $5-10.
 
The series kicks off June 24 with Mark Doty and Leni Zumas. Doty is the author of nine books of poems, including Fire to Fire: New & Selected Poems, and five volumes of nonfiction. Zumas is the author of the story collection Farewell Navigator and the novel The Listeners.

Campus Recreation offers summer community memberships

Campus Recreation is now offering summer community memberships proving access to the Recreation Center, Boyden and Totman pools and other facilities and services through Aug. 31 for $40 per person.

No UMass affiliation is required.

The Recreation Center will be closed July 23-27 for the resurfacing of gym and group fitness room floors.

Fire evacuation drills and fire alarm system testing

Annual fire evacuation drills and testing of fire alarm systems will begin June 19 and will be conducted within university academic and administrative buildings through July 20.

The program is being coordinated though a joint effort of Physical Plant and Environmental Health and Safety.

Fire evacuation drills help to ensure that occupants are familiar with the sound of the fire alarm system, are knowledgeable of all evacuation routes, and that immediate evacuation from the building is necessary whenever a fire alarm system is activated.

Sidewalk construction restricts ISB entrances

Site work and sidewalk construction at and around the New Laboratory Science Building is restricting doorways at the Integrated Sciences Building (ISB) through mid-June.

Temporary sidewalks will be in place from Skinner Hall and the ISB to North Pleasant Street during construction. The entrance at the northeast end of the building will be closed from June 4-18. Exits to the north/west will be unaffected.

Hadley Farm offering ground beef, steaks for sale

The Hadley Farm is again offering beef from its own pasture-raised Belted Galloways.

The Student Run Belted Galloway Group has some ground meat available and there are a few steaks left, too. "It is very delicious," says the farm's Alice Newth, who can be contact for prices and to arrange pick-up.
