Ferreira leading diversity planning effort
Debora Ferreira, executive director of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, has assumed additional responsibilities following the retirement of Esther Terry, who oversaw the office and some related units in her role as associate chancellor.
Under the administrative shift, Ferreira will report directly to Chancellor Robert C. Holub, who has asked her to develop a diversity plan for the campus and to provide monthly updates to his Executive Management Team.
In addition, Disability Services and the Office of Counseling and Assessment Services now report to Ferreira. The units previously reported to Terry.
Ferreira was named executive director of EO&D in May 2006 after serving as the office’s associate director. Prior to joining the campus staff, she was a diversity issues consultant to businesses, schools and higher education institutions. Ferreira also worked in the Maine Attorney General’s Office, where she focused on civil rights issues in schools.
A UMass Amherst alumna, she earned degrees in Afro-American Studies and Legal Studies in 1993 before going on to Boston College Law School, where she was awarded her J.D. in 1996.
