Extension publishes guide on IPM for schools, sports facilities
“Integrated Pest Management Protocols for Turf on School Properties and Sports Fields,” was recently released by the UMass Extension Turf Program.
The booklet is part of a legislatively funded initiative undertaken by the Extension Turf Program in cooperation with the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.
The 101-page, spiral-bound guide can be used to create, implement, evaluate and document an IPM program for sports turf and turf on school grounds. By outlining the basis for a complete IPM system, the protocols aim to increase pest management efficiency, reduce the reliance on pesticides and protect the environment.
Based on the field experience of a cooperating team of experienced turf managers and based on science, the protocols specify the essential components of an IPM system yet are flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of management levels.
The booklet can be ordered online (see link below) and is also available through the UMass Extension Bookstore at 545-2717. Bulk discounts are available.
