Several graduate programs earn national rankings from US News

The campus’ graduate programs in computer science education, nursing, engineering and speech-language pathology have earned national rankings from U.S News & World Report for 2009.

The annual rankings are based on a combination of expert opinion about program quality and statistical indicators about the faculty, research and students, the magazine says.

According to the latest set of rankings, the graduate program in Computer Science ranked 20th, while its artificial intelligence speciality ranked 10th and systems speciality ranked 18th.

The graduate program in engineering ranked 49th, education ranked 45th, nursing ranked 54th and speech-language pathology ranked at No. 30, nationally.

Rankings are determined by asking deans, program directors and senior faculty to judge the academic qualities of programs in their field. In addition, statistical indicators such as measures of the qualities students and faculty bring to the education experience along with measures of graduates’ achievements linked to their degrees are used, the magazine says.
