Graduate School centennial celebration set for April 9

The centennial of the Graduate School will be celebrated Wednesday, April 9 with a series of colloquia led by nine eminent alumni.

The celebration of “A Century of Scholarship” will be capped in the evening with an invitation-only dinner where alumnus and Nobel laureate Russell Hulse will give the keynote address.

The colloquia, which will be presented in the Campus Center, will be led by alumni representatives of the nine schools and colleges with graduate programs and the Du Bois Library. Colloquium speakers are Michael Blakey, Social and Behavioral Sciences; Dev Gupta, Engineering; Rajan Varadarajan, Management; Gennaro Chierchia, Humanities and Fine Arts; Priscilla M. Clarkson, Public Health and Health Sciences; David J. Mazzo, Natural Sciences and Mathematics; Noel Anderson, Natural Resources and the Environment; Deborah J. Kenny, Nursing; and Homer Meade II, Education and the Library.

Since its establishment in 1908 by the Board of Trustees of Massachusetts Agricultural College, the Graduate School has grown from a handful of students enrolled in agriculturally related fields to more than 5,700 students in 73 master’s and 52 doctoral programs.
