Campus to break ground for Recreation Center
University and state officials will break ground for the campus’ new Recreation Center on Friday, Nov. 2 at 1:15 p.m. near Dickinson Hall.
The building will be constructed on the east side of Commonwealth Avenue across from the Mullins Center.
Speaking at the event will be interim Chancellor Thomas W. Cole Jr.; President Jack M. Wilson, Stephen P. Tocco, chairman of the Board of Trustees; John McCutcheon, athletic director; Sen. Stanley C. Rosenberg (D-Amherst) and Rep. Ellen Story (D-Amherst).
According to Facilities and Campus Planning, the three-level, 120,000-square-foot building will include a weight and fitness area spanning two of the three building floors, locker and toilet facilities, a three-court gym that is dividable, three multipurpose rooms, a juice bar and lounge space and new administration offices.
The $50 million structure was designed by Sasaki Associates of Boston.
