Psychology graduate student cited for outstanding service

Mamta Dadlani and Jamie SimonsonSecond-year graduate student Mamta Dadlani received the Jamie Smile Award for outstanding service on April 11 from the clinical division of the Psychology Department.

Since her first year on campus, she has been a student representative to departmental faculty meetings and a member of the prospective student interview weekend planning committee. She also has worked to review and implement changes in the department’s training clinic, the Psychological Services Center.

Dadlani was recently chair of the orientation committee for first-year students, which helps new students become acclimated to the program and fosters connections between students at different stages in the program. She has also served on several diversity committees and as a mentor in the Research and Mentoring Program for Minority Students. She is also the departmental liaison to the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology.

“Mamta is known as a dedicated community member, a friendly and supportive person and one who effortlessly negotiates the many complex roles of student, clinician and researcher,” according to Christopher Overtree, director of Psychological Services Center. “The Psychology faculty are truly grateful for all the work she has done to strengthen the Clinical Psychology Program.”

In 2001, professor emeritus Norm Simonson created a fund named after his newborn son, Jamie, to honor graduate students in Clinical Psychology who have demonstrated outstanding service to the department in the areas of community service, clinical work or research.

The award, which includes a stipend, is given yearly by Jamie Simonson, now 6 years old, to a graduate student nominated by the Clinical Psychology faculty.
