Senior awarded Fulbright to study in Germany
Jocelyn Scheintaub, a senior Chemistry and English major, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to travel to Mainz, Germany, to study at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research.
Fulbright Pre-Doctoral Fellowships are offered to U.S. and foreign graduate students and graduating seniors. Nearly 800 Americans are studying abroad with either full or partial support from the Fulbright Program. Similar awards are offered each year to foreign graduate students for support at U.S. universities. The fellowship will pay for her airfare and will also give her a monthly stipend of 750 euros a month.
“I will be working on a project of my own design,” said Scheintaub, “which will most likely involve various aspects of a new design for photovoltaic cells. I’m really excited to be going back to Germany for a year. It is going to be an amazing experience to both travel and grow as a scientist.”
Scheintaub has been a member of the Chemistry Club since she was a freshman and has been working in faculty member Dhandapani Venkataraman’s lab for more than two years. She has participated in undergraduate research at other universities, including programs at the University of Idaho, Stanford University and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research.
