Obituary: Marion S. Whalen, retired dining commons manager
Marion S. (Swiatlowski) Whalen, 76, of South Hadley, a retired food service manager, died Nov. 11 at the Holyoke Medical Center.
Born in Chicopee, she worked for many years in food service. She started her campus career in 1968 as the first manager of the new Top of the Campus Restaurant. She later worked as the public schools lunch director for the city of Chicopee, and as the food service director for the former G. Fox in Hartford. She then returned to campus as a manager of the dining commons her retirement in 1996.
She leaves two daughters, Michelle Davidson of Texas and Jo-Ann Bourguignon of South Hadley; a son, Joseph Bourguignon of Germany; a stepdaughter, Deborah Fortier; a stepson, Michael Whalen of Connecticut; a brother and sister, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
