Gerber speaks at regional minority health conference
Daniel S. Gerber, director of the undergraduate Public Health major, discussed the new program on Oct. 15 at the sixth biennial New England Regional Minority Health Conference in Providence.
UMass Amherst offers the only undergraduate degree in public health from an accredited school of public health in New England. It is only one of 12 such programs in the country, according to Gerber, who is also associate dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences.
The New England Regional Minority Health Conference is forum to develop strategies to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities. More than 600 health professionals, community health workers, nurses, physicians, legislators, academicians, employers, community-based organizations and health care consumers attended the conference to explore new ways to improve the health and well-being of New England’s minority communities.
