Preston pens ‘Historic Doorways of San Antonio’
Former administrator and faculty member Frederick R. Preston is the author of “Historic Doorways of San Antonio,” recently issued by Schiffer Publishing.
The book includes a foreword by Bexar County Judge Nelson W. Wolff, the former mayor of San Antonio. Available in softcover, the work contains 189 color photographs of architectural features related to the history and cultural heritage of south Texas.
After retiring as vice president for student affairs at SUNY-Stony Brook in 2005, Preston, moved to San Antonio, where he still works as an independent management consultant.
Preston received his doctorate through the School of Education in 1971 and served as an assistant professor there from 1971-1981. He also held several administrative posts on campus, including associate director of the Office of Community Development & Human Relations (1971-72), acting director of University Counseling and Career Placement Services (1973-74), special assistant to the vice chancellor for Student Affairs (1972-76) and associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs (1976-81). He also served as acting associate vice president for Academic Affairs at the President’s Office in Boston in 1979-80.
In 1981, he was named vice president for student affairs at Stony Brook, where he also held an appointment as a clinical associate professor in the School of Social Welfare for 10 years.
