Crosby, Emrick lead polymer research conference

The recent election of associate professor Al Crosby as vice-chair of the West Coast Polymer Gordon Research Conference highlights the campus’ leadership of the most prestigious conference on polymer research, according to his colleague, associate professor Todd Emrick, the rising chair of the conference.

Gordon Conferences began in 1931 with one on chemistry and there are now scores each year on different topics. All are small and held in quiet locations with simple lodging and facilities. They include open schedules with plenty of time for informal conversation among researchers. Discussions are led by the most active and recognized leaders in each field. There is a ban on publishing or reporting from conferences, so participants feel free to talk about unpublished or preliminary findings, even untested speculations. Thus, there is a tradition for new trends and research horizons to emerge first at Gordon Conferences, said Emrick.
