Golowich, Svistunov chosen as APS Fellows
Professor Eugene Golowich and associate professor Boris Svistunov of the Physics Department have been named Fellows of the American Physical Society.
The honor, which was announced last month, is conferred on less than one half of 1 percent of the APS membership. APS members are eligible for nomination and election to fellowship. Each nomination is evaluated by the fellowship committee of the appropriate APS division, topical group or forum. After review by the APS Fellowship Committee, the successful candidates are elected by APS Council.
Golowich was nominated by the society’s Division of Particles and Fields for “extensive contributions to the development and understanding of the Standard Model, particularly through the calculations elucidating the interplay of the strong and weak interactions and the application of chiral and dispersive methods.”
Svistunov was cited for his “pioneering contributions to the theory and practice of Monte Carlo simulations for strongly correlated quantum and classical systems, the invention of the worm algorithm and diagrammatic Monte Carlo techniques, and fundamental theoretical results on superfluid phenomena in quantum gases, liquids, and solids.” He was nominated by the Division of Computational Physics.
