Manning lectures at University of Naples
Professor William J. Manning of Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences, lectured at the University of Naples Federico II in July.
Professor Massimo Fagnana invited Manning to discuss the role of trees in ameliorating
urban heat islands and reducing air pollutants as well as to share his expertise in designing accurate experiments to determine the effects of ozone on plants. Manning is engaged in a project in Springfield to study the role of trees in urban air quality.
Manning’s lectures were titled “The Role of Urban Forests in Environmental Sustainability in Cities” and “The Role of Toxicology in Designing Experiments with Ozone and Plants to Yield Relevant Results.”
Manning and Fagnana are planning to collaborate in the future.
While in Italy, Manning consulted with another research partner, Elena Paoletti in Florence. He received a travel award from the Italian government for the meeting.
