Korhonen plans 3,500-mile charitable bike ride
Jon Korhonen, assistant director of Admissions and assistant track and field coach, is planning to bike this summer from Boston to San Francisco to raise money for the Children’s Hunger Fund.
Korhonen, who graduated two years ago, will be joined on the 3,500-mile trip by his roommate and fellow alumnus, Andy McCarron.
“Our campaign, ‘The Coast 2 Coast Cycle 4 Hunger,’ is being fully paid for by Andy and myself out of our own pockets, and 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to the Children’s Hunger Fund,” said Korhonen.
The two cyclists, who plan to depart June 14, have already raised more than $6,000 towards their $15,000 goal, he said.
As an undergraduate, Korhonen was captain of the men’s track and field team and still holds the campus record for the mile. He was also the drum major of the Minuteman Marching Band, a Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a tour guide and a recipient of the 21st Century Leader Award. Next fall, plans to pursue an M.Ed. at Harvard University.
