Proulx's book cited by Choice
A book by Donald A. Proulx, professor emeritus of Anthropology, has been selected as an “Outstanding Academic Title” by Choice, the journal of reviews for academic libraries.
His work, “A Sourcebook of Nasca Ceramic Iconography: Reading a Culture Through Its Art,” is among 646 books and electronic resources named to this year’s list, which was published in the journal’s January issue.
According to Choice editor and publisher Irving E. Rockwood, the list selections were chosen from 7,094 titles reviewed by the journal during the past year.
“These outstanding works have been selected for their excellence in scholarship and presentation, the significance of their contribution to the field, and their value as important - often the first - treatment of their subject,” said Rockwood.
Published by the University Iowa Press, “A Sourcebook of Nasca Ceramic Iconography,” is the first book-length treatment of the ancient Peruvian pottery to appear in English. Drawing upon an archive of more than 8,000 Nasca vessels from more than 150 public and private collections, Proulx systematically describes the major artistic motifs of the polychrome pottery, interprets the major themes displayed on the ceramics, and uses these descriptions and his interpretations to analyze Nasca society.
