Society of American Foresters elects Kittredge as fellow
David B. Kittredge, Jr., professor of Natural Resources Conservation, has been elected a Society of American Foresters (SAF) Fellow by the group’s New England section.
SAF recognizes members with the title of fellow for outstanding contributions to the society over a sustained period and for distinguishing themselves in the forestry profession.
Candidates are determined by a district fellow committee within each SAF voting district and are then elected by their peers in their respective regions. According to SAF Fellow Committee member and Natural Resources Conservation graduate student Bob Ricard, fewer than 5 percent of the SAF national members are fellows.
There are only 38 fellows in New England out of a membership of 1,100.
Kittredge and this year’s other New England fellow, William Bentley, professor emeritus at the State University of New York School of Environmental Studies and Forestry, will be officially recognized at the annual winter meeting of the New England SAF in February.
A member of the faculty since 1987, Kittredge has also served as a UMass Extension forester. He earned a B.S. in forestry from the University of Vermont before completing his master’s and doctorate in silviculture at Yale University.
