Swain nominated for Life Safety Educator of the Year
Michael Swain, Fire Safety Services supervisor with the Department of Environmental Health and Safety, was nominated for the 2007 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year award.
The nomination was acknowledged with a citation presented Sept. 26 to Swain by State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan during the 13th annual Massachusetts Fire and Life Safety Education Conference. The awards program and conference is sponsored by the State Department of Fire Services.
Swain received the nomination in recognition for his outstanding public fire safety education efforts at the University as well as his involvement with college and university fire safety initiatives at the national level. In addition to his on-campus efforts, he has worked to bring the town and University together as partners in off-campus housing fire safety education with an emphasis on the fraternities and sororities.
He recently served as the president of the Massachusetts Fire Prevention Association and has been a member of the National Fire Protection Association Education Section since 1988. He currently serves on the board of directors of the Center for Campus Fire Safety.
