Chakravartty co-edits new book on global communication
A new book exploring the uneven flows of global communication, co-edited by Paula Chakravartty, associate professor of Communication, was published in August by Rowman & Littlefield.
“Global Communications: Towards a Transcultural Political Economy,” examines political economic power and communication in relation to historically specific encounters with modernity. Taking a political-economic analysis of communication and culture, the group of international authors looks beyond developments in the North American information and culture industries to map new forms of citizenship and exclusion. The chapters spotlight China, Ghana, India, Japan, Palestine, Russia, Singapore, and Venezuela, and also focus on the transnational formations of the European Union, the pan-Arab and Spanish-speaking markets and civil society actors in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and North America.
Among the contributors is Chakravartty’s departmental colleague, associate professor Mari Castañeda.
The co-editor is Yuezhi Zhao, associate professor and Canada Research Chair in the Political Economy of Global Communication at Simon Fraser University, Canada.
The book is available for $79.95 in a cloth edition.
