Upcoming conference pays tribute to Crotty

James CrottyEconomics professor James Crotty’s contributions to the field of political economy are being recognized Oct. 19-20 with a conference titled “Rebellious Macroeconomics: Marx, Keynes & Crotty.”

According to organizers of the program, Crotty has been a pioneer in exploring a range of central questions in political economy, including class conflict and the business cycle, financialization, international financial regulation, the successes and tensions of the East Asian development model, and a synthesis of Marx and Keynes. Crotty has also had tremendous influence as a teacher and mentor to a whole generation of heterodox scholars.

Several of Crotty’s departmental colleagues are on the program: David Kotz, William Gibson, Robert Pollin and Gerald Epstein.

Other scheduled speakers include Jonathan P. Goldstein, Bowdoin College; Malcolm Sawyer, University of Leeds; Martin Wolfson, University of Notre Dame; Gary Dymski, University of California Center, Sacramento; Fred Moseley, Mount Holyoke College; Steve Fazarri, Washington University in St. Louis; Michele Naples, College of New Jersey; Ozgur Orhangazi, Roosevelt University; Ray Boddy, San Diego State University; Makoto Itoh, Kokugakuin University and University of Tokyo; Michael Hillard, University of Southern Maine; Richard McIntyre, University of Rhode Island; Soo-Haeng Kim, Seoul National University and Ilene Grabel, Denver University.

Hosted by the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI), the conference is being held Gordon Hall, 418 N. Pleasant St.
