Reiff honored by Massachusetts Service Alliance

John Reiff, director of Civic Engagement and Service-Learning, was honored June 6 by the Massachusetts Service Alliance, which gave him its Higher-Education Community Service Champion award during the Massachusetts Conference on Service & Volunteering in Marlborough.

The award recognizes faculty members who have rendered exceptional educational, humanitarian, civic or other service in their community in addition to the honoree’s primary university responsibilities.  Recipients used service-learning or community action extensively as an innovative teaching tool to engage students in civic learning and created or cultivated long-term partnerships with multiple community agencies. The award also honors individuals who use innovative ways of employing reflective teaching methodology to connect community and public service experience with academic study.

During the conference, Reiff also led a workshop titled “Beyond Service and Volunteerism: Campus and Community in Partnership for Social Justice.”
