Obituary: Paul Procopio, professor emeritus of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning
Paul Procopio, 94, alumnus and professor emeritus of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning, died May 12 in Southbridge.
Born in Brockton, he graduated from the University in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture. During World War II, he was a civilian camouflage designer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

He was hired as an instructor of Horticulture in 1947. He earned his master’s degree in Horticulture in 1954.
In 1977, he served as acting head of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning.
He retired in 1983 as professor A and associate head of the department. A conference room in Hills South was named in his honor.
For many years, he was a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and was invested in 1983 as a fellow in the society for excellence in professional school education.
After retiring, he and his wife moved to Florida, returning to Massachusetts in 2007.
His wife, Elva (Tarbell Johnson) Procopio, died in 2010 and his first wife, Adeline (Baker) Procopio, died in 1979.
He leaves two daughters, Janet Oberti and her husband John of Litchfield, N.H., and Sara Davis and her husband Russell of Hillsborough, N.J.; two step-sons, two step-daughters, a sister-in-law, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
