Obituary: Jack Walsh, retired benefits manager in Human Resources
John B. (Jack) Walsh, 77, of Hadley and South Dennis, alumnus and retired benefits manager in Human Resources, died March 5 after a prolonged illness.
Born and raised in Winthrop, he received his B.A. in Industrial Management in 1957. He also earned a master’s in business administration from Western New England College.
He taught at WNEC for seven years. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves from 1957-63.

He joined the campus staff in 1964 and retired in 1995. He returned to part-time work briefly in 2002.
In 1995, he was awarded a Chancellor’s Citation for outstanding service. He was known to many on campus as the master of ceremonies at Campus Appreciation Day.
He was a member of UMass/Five College Credit Union board of directors, member and officer of Massachusetts State Retirees board of directors and Hampshire County retirement board, and the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association.
He leaves his wife, Mary Whitworth Wing Walsh of Hadley and Farmington, Maine; his daughter, Pamela Jassal of Acton; sons Jeffrey of Northampton and Timothy of Byfield, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a brother.
He was married for 40 years to the late Helen V. Eaton Walsh.
Calling hours are Monday, March 11 from 4-8 p.m. at the Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 12 at 10 a.m. in Most Holy Redeemer Church, Hadley. Burial will follow in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Hadley.
