News Office wins Telly Award for iCons video

Elizabeth Wilda, video producer for the Office of News and Media Relations, has been awarded a 2013 Telly Award for her video “The iCons Experience at UMass Amherst.”

She submitted the video to the Telly Award committee for review in April and was notified in mid-May that her work had received a Bronze Award in the Film/Video category of Non-Broadcast Education Production.

iCons, an 18-credit academic program directed by chemistry professor Scott Auerbach and offered by the College of Natural Sciences, provides integrative science education in renewable energy and biomedicine.  The program enhances students’ majors by offering an opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of students and applying their knowledge to existing problems of global significance.

Shooting for the video took place during the fall of 2012, and production was completed in February. Wilda produced and edited the video, and she shot the majority of its footage. She received production assistance from Media Coordinator Tom Zimnowski and shooting assistance from student employee Jordan Deschenes.

Wilda and her video colleagues have been awarded nine previous Telly awards, most recently in 2011.

“It’s a nice reflection on the university and the stellar programs, wonderful faculty and passionate students we have here,” Wilda said. “It’s easy to create an effective video when you have such great subject matter.”
