Nagurney gives graduate commencement speech at University of Gothenburg
Anna Nagurney, the John F. Smith Memorial Professor of Operations Management at the Isenberg School of Management, delivered the graduate commencement speech in a June 12 diploma ceremony celebrating the master’s degree recipients at the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.Nagurney’s speech, “On Great Leadership,” emphasized the importance of innovation and creation, doing the right thing, making opportunities for others, recognizing the achievements of others, supporting diversity, and remembering where you come from. She also noted that great leaders must be resilient, need to be great communicators, both in word and action, and keep their integrity. In her speech, she highlighted both Swedish and U.S. innovators and great leaders.
The diploma ceremony was conducted in the Assembly Hall at Vasaparken, University of Gothenburg. The hall was filled with family, friends, and faculty, and the graduates were celebrated with fanfares and champagne.
There were 105 master’s degree recipients in nine specialties in specialties ranging from finance to transport and logistics management, and international business and trade.

This is the second time that Nagurney has delivered the graduate commencement speech at the school. She gave the speech with the theme “Life as a Network” last year. Nagurney was appointed a visiting professor of operations management at the School of Business, Economics and Law for 2012-13 and she has been spending part of her sabbatical there. She has given invited lectures and seminars, mentored students, conducted research and has worked on new collaborative partnerships.
