Fermann gives STEM talk on 'The Science of Craft'

Justin Fermann, senior lecturer in Chemistry, will present a Tuesday STEM Talk, “The Science of Craft," on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. in 138 Hasbrouck.

According to Fermann, learning scientific principles and skills needed to understand and master the crafts of blacksmithing, ceramics, brewing and glassblowing. He will  talk about what motivated the development of a Gen Ed curriculum that was such a radical departure from what is traditionally offered in Chemistry, the design work done  leading up to the first offering of the class, the challenges faced in running it, and some ideas from either successes or failures that can be taken away.
