Center for Research on Families announces student award winners
The Center for Research on Families recently awarded $39,200 in funding to 11 undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in researching issues related to the family.Now in its fourth year, CRF’s Student Awards Program supports student research, training and conference travel and provides opportunities for students to work with faculty on research projects. Awardees engage with the center by attending two roundtable events to present their research.
The CRF Family Research Graduate Student Fellowship provided $10,000 to three doctoral students for one year to work with a faculty member on a family research project. The recipients are Alix Olson, Political Science, Clauia Lugo, Psychology, and Samantha Bernecker, Psychology.
CRF Family Research Travel Awards were given to four graduate students who have written an outstanding paper on issues of family research and will be presenting the paper at a national research conference. The award is used for travel expenses associated with the conference. The winners are Milena Marchesi, Ph.D. candidate in Anthropology, Holly Grant-Marsney, Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology, Rosanna Breaux, Ph.D. candidate in Clinical Psychology, and Hillary Hadley, master’s candidate in Psychology.
Two CRF Family Research Undergraduate Assistantships were awarded to students to work with a faculty member on a family research project. The $3,000 grants went to senior Maggie Cunningham, Psychology, and junior Chantal Newkirk, Sociology.
The CRF Family Research Honors Thesis/Capstone Project Award, which recognizes an outstanding senior whose honors thesis focuses on family issues was given to Michelle Hien of Public Health, Economics and Psychology.
Jinni Su, a Ph.D. candidate in human development and family studies at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, received a CRF Family Research Methodological Studies Grant, which allows a student or postdoctoral fellow to participate in the CRF summer methodology program for no fee and receive $500 travel reimbursement.
