Off-Campus Programs and ServicesThough we are based at the largest worksite in western Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, we also provide workplace and communtiy education programs throughout the Commonwealth. Our off-campus programs and services include a diverse array of classes, workshops, workplace needs assessments, grant writing and research services to employers, unions, communities, organizations and institutions who are interested in upgrading the skills of their employees or members. See also News. SOUTHERN HILLTOWNS ADULT EDUCATION CENTER (SHAEC) SHAEC is now in it's 10th year as a service to adults in Huntington and Chester. We offer free instructions in reading, writing, math and computers for GED preparation or workplace and personal skill development. Our Media Literacy Program supports the use of computer, video, print and other media as tools in the learning process. The center operates the Southern Hilltowns Computer Center with 7 on-line networked computers and weekly drop-in hours for instruction and individual use. Call Leslie Edwards at (413) 667-0217 for information or visit our website at: http://www.umass.edu/shaec/about.htm Learn at Work - Adult Education for Early Childhood Education providers (ECE) UMass Labor/Management Workplace Education provides educational services to entry level Early Childhood Education (ECE) workers while working in partnership with Early Childhood Centers of Greater Springfield Inc., New North Citizen’s Council, New Beginnings Childcare, and UAW Local 2322. Classes in Springfield focus on the Childhood Development Associate (CDA) certificate credential requirements, state and national early childcare competencies, and Common Core State Standards in English and math. Six classes, funded by Commonwealth Corporation for three years, prepare childcare workers to earn their CDA as they practice and define their workplace and college readiness skills.
