The University of Massachusetts Amherst has partnered with Johnson Controls Inc. (JCI) to run the UMass Amherst Green Games Residence Hall Competition. Now in it's second year, the goal of this program is to further promote sustainability awareness across campus while encouraging residents to reduce their consumption of resources in the residence halls. Ultimately, the University of Massachusetts would like to run this competition across all residence halls on its campus to stimulate the participation of over 12,000 students in sustainability efforts.
In the spring of 2012, the University of Massachusetts launched the first annual Green Games Residence Hall Competition in 23 residence halls over the course of 6 weeks. Participating residence halls were selected on a volunteer basis through collaboration with the Residence Hall Association. These halls were then divided into six teams, based purely on residential area: Team Northeast, Team Central, Team Orchard Hill, Team Sylvan, Team Southwest North and Team Southwest South. The RHA representatives for each of the participating halls served as team leaders for their respective teams.
The second annual Green Games are launching on February 19, 2013. Students, join your Green Games team here:
