The Orchard Hill Residence Halls, which were completed in 1965, are going through major envelope renovations over a four year period. The improvements to Dickinson House were completed in Aug 2010. The improvements to Webster House should be completed by Aug 2011. We anticipate the improvements to Grayson and Field will follow the same trajectory, i.e. complete by Aug 2012 and 2013, respectively.
By virtue of having replaced all the existing single-pane with new double-paned windows throughout, adding rigid insulation to the exterior brick wall panels, incorporating new weather sealants throughout, the energy efficiency of each building should improve significantly after construction. If a baseline could be established for an unimproved building, then compared to the performance of an improved building 1 year after completion, we could evaluate the success of the project as it pertains to energy use.
