The Green Building Committee has believes that targeting LEED Certification for all new construction is a huge step in the right direction, but there are substantially more underperforming existing buildings on campus that need our attention. Using the USGBC’s LEED Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (EBOM) rating system, an audit is being planned for the North Residential Area. These buildings were completed in 2006 and used a ‘green’ approach in the design and construction, but was not LEED-NC Certified. Using the North Residential Area as the pilot, the Green Building Committee will determine whether the LEED: EBOM rating system is a strong tool for evaluating existing campus buildings.
