Biography
My name is Sara Hopps. I am the SAS coordinator for campus and a junior creating my major in Sustainable Engagement for Community Health. My role as SASC is to gather, motivate and collaborate with others to engage persons in developing and inspiring change for the community. My on going work on campus has been in improving the systemic structure of composting on campus and related educational activities. In addition, I have been working amongst a group of students to educate our peers about food practices, personal and global, that can be improved on campus by students. We are taking action this semester in doing a food audit of our campus with the Dining Services to determine how we can work together to provide the best food system for our campus. Look for the UMass Student Food Advocacy for upcoming plans!
“As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story”. This poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann guides my life and work. I highly encourage you to read the whole version here http://www.cs.columbia.edu/~gongsu/desiderata_textonly.htmlv
