Charles Apicella

Mail and Distribution Services is a full service operation located in Goodell Building and the Physical Plan that provide delivery of U.S. mail, campus mail, Five College courier mail, and mail from the University courier system which serves the Lowell, Boston, Dartmouth, Worcester and Amherst campuses, the President's Office and designated state office buildings.They also handle the receiving and redistribution functions for the entire campus.

Since his arrival at UMass Amherst in 2002, Charles has reduced vehicle miles driven and the number of vehicles on the road by eliminating duplication in runs and better coordination of duties.
In addition to decreasing the size of vehicles, he has introduced a GEM car and biodiesel vehicles to the fleet. He is presently coordinating a trial program to use bicycles in the distribution process.
