The Linguistics Major and Joint Majors
The Department of Linguistics offers a linguistics major, a minor, and nine interdisciplinary majors in which the study of linguistics forms a significant part of the curriculum. These are a combination of Linguistics and Anthropology, Chinese, German, Japanese, Philosophy, Portuguese, Psychology , Russian, or Spanish.
The Linguistics and Russian and Linguistics and Japanese joint majors include some required courses that are unavailable on the UMass campus at present. Please see the Russian and Japanese requirements for details. Be sure to contact the Undergraduate Advisor before considering any of these joint majors to determine current availability of course offerings.
Junior Year Writing Requirement
Courses that satisfy the Junior Year Writing (JYW) requirement are listed with regular course offerings here. The Junior Year Writing requirement does not need to be satisfied in your junior year.
